Verne Story 02 – Verne Marine

Why we are called Verne

In 1870, Jules Verne described a vessel that did not exist.

Electric light, decades before the lightbulb was patented. Climate control. A library. A pipe organ. Observation windows onto a world no one had ever seen. An owner who lived aboard not because he had to, but because he had built a private universe more refined than the one on shore.

The Nautilus was fiction. It was also a brief.

A century and a half later, the yachts being delivered to private owners are mechanical marvels – and digital orphans. Twelve apps. Four remote controls. A tablet from 2019 already obsolete. The most expensive vessels in the world are built with technology that a hotel in Singapore retired a decade ago.

Verne imagined the future a hundred years early. The yachting industry is a hundred years late.

We chose this name on day one, deliberately, because we believe the gap between what is and what could be is the only thing worth working on. Verne saw further than his century could build. We are not asking shipyards to imagine the impossible. We are asking them to build what has already been imagined – what has already been proven – what every adjacent industry has already shipped.

The Nautilus is not a metaphor. It is a deadline.

A yacht should know its owner. It should respond to them. It should anticipate their arrival, protect what they have built, learn from how they live aboard, and improve every year it is in the water. Not in 2050. Not at the next boat show. Now.

We are called Verne because someone in 1870 could see a yacht that thinks. And because in 2026 onwards, no one should still have to imagine it.

Verne wrote fiction. You build real systems. Aren't you romanticising the work?
